Description
Graphite drawing of an Indigo Bunting on a barbed wire fence. 6″ by 8″ on mixed media paper. I used a photo I found online for reference. The initial reason for creating this piece was was study of the texture of the various parts of the bird (namely the feathers) and the barbed wire. While working on it I started to consider the idea of freedom – i.e., “free as a bird”. The fence is designed to keep large animals (and people) from crossing but a small creature such as this bird, doesn’t see it that way at all. It’s effective as a perch but doesn’t nothing to hinder it’s “freedom.”
