Description

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was drawn using a photo I found online as reference. The SHIELD logo in the background was added for effect. Prior to this, I had done very simple backgrounds in my portrait style work. This is the start of some experimentation.

This is graphite and Prismacolor Ebony pencil on 9″ x 12″ smooth bristol board. I try to get these done in about 8 hours or so. The idea being that it shouldn’t take more than a work day to complete. I am experimenting with textures and, in this case, I have tried some new techniques for the skin. Drawing each pore that is visible in the photo doesn’t seem practical if I want to keep these from taking too long, but I think I can find a good compromise.
